A first enquiry about citizenship
Role-play: you ask your first, most general question about citizenship — where to go, where people start, where the official information lives (Pitanje o državljanstvu).
Where it happens
MUP — police administration
The Novi Sad police administration on Bulevar kralja Petra I. This is where residence and document errands happen: address registration, applications, biometrics, collecting cards.
Who you talk to
Branka (MUP inspector)
Branka has worked the foreigners' counter for years. Hundreds of applications pass her desk each week, so she speaks briefly and to the point but without irritation: she asks what you need, looks at your papers and names the next step.
What you need to do
- Ask the general question: you would like to understand where to go about citizenship.
- Say briefly about yourself: how long you have been here and on what grounds.
- The complication: you are told this is not their counter. Calmly ask where exactly to go and where to read the official information.
- Ask whether anything will be needed in Serbian and in what form submissions are made.
- Thank them for pointing you the right way and say goodbye.
