Applying for permanent residence

Role-play: you submit an application for permanent residence — you tell the story of your stay and answer detailed questions (Stalno nastanjenje).

Where it happens

MUP — police administration
The Novi Sad police administration on Bulevar kralja Petra I. This is where residence and document errands happen: address registration, applications, biometrics, collecting cards.

Who you talk to

Branka (MUP inspector)
Branka has worked the foreigners' counter for years. Hundreds of applications pass her desk each week, so she speaks briefly and to the point but without irritation: she asks what you need, looks at your papers and names the next step.

What you need to do

  1. Say that you are applying for permanent residence.
  2. Tell the story of your stay: since when, on what grounds, whether there were gaps.
  3. Answer the detailed questions: where you live, what you do, whether you have family here.
  4. The complication: you are asked about a gap you barely remember. Answer honestly without inventing dates.
  5. Ask what happens next and how you will hear about the decision.
