What you need to do
- Ask to read the contract before signing, without hurrying.
- Ask about a clause you do not understand — the term and renewal, for example.
- Ask for what you agreed verbally to be written into the contract.
- The complication: the landlord says 'it is a standard contract, just sign'. Politely insist on finishing it.
- Ask for your own copy and check what happens at renewal.
