Meeting a neighbour

Role-play: you run into a neighbour at the entrance, introduce yourself and learn how things work in the building (Upoznavanje sa komšijom).

Where it happens

Your flat
Your cosy flat in central Novi Sad — the base where your lessons take place.

Who you talk to

Mira (neighbour)
Mira is a warm neighbour in her early thirties who lives one floor up. She loves a chat on the stairwell and gently helps a newcomer find their feet.

What you need to do

  1. Say hello, introduce yourself and say you have just moved in.
  2. Ask the practical things: where the rubbish goes and when the building's quiet hours are.
  3. The complication: the neighbour speaks fast and colloquially. Say you are still learning Serbian and ask him to slow down.
  4. Say something friendly — that you are glad to meet them and they can knock if anything comes up.
  5. Say goodbye the way neighbours do.
