A problem in the building: talking to the manager
Role-play: you catch the building manager on the stairs and report a problem in the building — the lift is out, the basement leaks, the entryphone is dead (Problem u zgradi).
Where it happens
Your flat
Your cosy flat in central Novi Sad — the base where your lessons take place.
Who you talk to
Milan (building manager)
Milan was elected building manager and has known everything about the stairwell ever since: who is behind on the maintenance fee, whose pipe leaks, when the lift was last repaired. He grumbles, but he helps — and he learns foreign tenants' names faster than anyone.
What you need to do
- Introduce yourself, say your flat number and describe the problem in the building.
- Say how long it has been going on and whether the neighbours have noticed.
- Ask who decides this — the building or the managing company — and what needs to happen.
- The complication: the manager says the building will not pay and it goes to a meeting. Ask when the meeting is and whether you may come.
- Offer to help — gather the neighbours, pass on a repairman's number — and say goodbye.
