Choosing an accountant: what to ask

Role-play: you call an accountant before hiring them — describe your situation and work out whether they suit you (Izbor knjigovođe).

Where it happens

Your flat
Your cosy flat in central Novi Sad — the base where your lessons take place.

Who you talk to

Saša (accountant)
Saša does the books for small sole traders — half his clients are foreigners, so he is used to explaining Serbian terms in plain words. Direct, friendly, and always asking for documents on time.

What you need to do

  1. Describe your situation: what you do, whether you are registered, where your clients are.
  2. Ask whether they have worked with foreigners and with clients like you.
  3. Ask how the work goes: what you send, how often, how you stay in touch.
  4. The complication: unfamiliar terms come up. Ask for plain words.
  5. Ask which language you will communicate in and agree a next step.
