This is the first part of the lesson. The rest, the exercises and the reviews are in the app.
Forms and documents
The lesson “Personal information” gave you the first fields of a form: ime, prezime, datum i mesto rođenja, državljanstvo, adresa, JMBG, potpis. Now for the rest.
What the paper is called
English “application” and “certificate” each cover several Serbian words; name the right one and you will be understood more precisely.
Which “certificate”? A potvrda confirms a fact, and an employer can issue one too: potvrda o zaposlenju “certificate of employment”. An uverenje is issued by an authority from its own records: uverenje o državljanstvu “certificate of citizenship”. A birth certificate is an izvod iz matične knjige rođenih, literally “an extract from the register of births” (lesson “Education & media”).
The verbs of paperwork
What the form says
Instructions on a form are often in the infinitive, an impersonal “to be done like this”. English forms use the imperative, but German forms work like Serbian ones: Nichtzutreffendes streichen, literally “what does not apply: to cross out”.
