Online Serbian language schools: how to choose the format — a group, a tutor or a mentor
An online Serbian school is either a scheduled group two or three times a week (€80–150 a month), individual lessons with a school teacher (from €15–25 an hour), or a format where the teacher guides you at your own pace. Lingomir is an online school of the third kind: a full A0–C2 course for self-study plus the mentor programme — mini-groups of up to ten, a personal call every week and an experienced teacher in the chat every working day, with no timetable to fit your life around.
Three kinds of online school
A scheduled group. The classic course: 8–12 people, Zoom classes two or three times a week at a set hour, the school’s textbook, homework. The plus is discipline and live classmates; the minus is that if you miss two weeks for work or a move, the group has moved on, and the pace is the same for everyone.
Individual lessons at a school. The same teacher, one-to-one and on your schedule. More expensive — €15–30 an hour — and between lessons you are usually on your own.
A mentor at your own pace. The teacher does not run a class by a timetable; they guide you: set the call at a convenient time, answer in the chat, pick materials for your week, while the study itself happens on a platform with the course and practice. That is how the Lingomir mentor programme works.
What to check before paying
- Who teaches. Teaching experience and experience with your language, not only “native speaker”.
- What happens between classes. Are there materials, checked exercises, someone to ask.
- What happens if you miss a week. Does the lesson burn, move, or does the group leave you behind.
- Levels. Many schools stop at B1–B2; a full path to C2 is rare.
- Language for life or for a test. Do they cover real relocation situations — the bank, renting, the doctor, the police.
- Cancellation terms. Can you stop at any time, and what happens to the paid period.
How the Lingomir school works
The base is a full 260-topic CEFR course from A0 to C2: a lesson, a cheat sheet and exercises of ten kinds for every topic, a placement test, a 4,300-word dictionary with stress marks and spaced repetition, dialogues with the residents of a virtual Novi Sad about real relocation situations. Three lessons a week are free; Premium removes the limits for €7.99 a month. More in About Lingomir.
On top of the course sits the mentor programme: a mini-group of up to ten, a one-hour personal call every week, the mentor in the chat every working day, and after every call the platform prepares a summary, a cheat sheet and materials. Mentors are experienced teachers of Serbian with real teaching experience — that is the standard of selection. There are no scheduled group classes: the group is a shared chat and a shared mentor, and everyone has their own pace. €119 a month, now €99 with the discount; Premium included. Enrolling now; you pay only once the group starts.
