Checking the car's paperwork

Role-play: before buying you ask to see the papers and check them against the car (Provera dokumenata vozila).

Who you talk to

Boban (car salesman)
Boban sells used cars and knows a story about each one — though he tells it selectively. Friendly, quick to first names, happy to let you drive it, and mildly put out when you ask for the paperwork, which he nevertheless fetches.

What you need to do

  1. Ask to see the car's papers before talking about price.
  2. Check in whose name the car is and whether that matches the seller.
  3. Check the chassis number in the papers against the one on the car.
  4. The complication: the conversation is steered away from the papers. Politely but firmly return to them.
  5. Propose an independent inspection and doing the sale properly.
